Parsley & Garlic (PG) paste easy Pampushki garlic bread

Pampushki are Ukraine’s answer to dinner rolls - yeasted mini buns that go perfectly with Borsch, slathered with plenty of butter and garlic. You can fake a fresh-baked batch with bakery dinner rolls, dabbed with PG paste, and dotted with butter cubes. If your dinner rolls are fresh, there’s no need to refresh them, but if you head to the bakery towards closing time, you might manage to buy some at a discount and refresh them with a splash of water before continuing with the method below.

  • 8 dinner rolls something soft from your local bakery will do the trick
  • ½ cup PG paste
  • 75 g butter cubed

  • Preheat the oven to 200℃ (180℃ fan).
  • If using yesterday’s bread, flick the rolls with a little water.
  • Nestle into a snug fitting earthenware dish.
  • Dab with PG paste and dot with butter cubes, opening up the dinner roll creases to let the good times roll.
  • Place foil over the top.
  • Bake on the medium rack for 12-15 minutes.
